The exchange order (MCO) can be exchanged to HOKKAIDO RAIL PASS at the HOKKAIDO RAIL PASS exchange offices after you arrive in Japan. With the pass, you can ride all JR trains and some designated JR buses within HOKKAIDO (additional fee will be required if you ride sleeping coach or carpet coach). Only foreign tourists who have non-Japanese passport and visit Japan for sightseeing under the entry status of "temporary visitor" can purchase this Exchange Order(MCO) for HOKKAIDO RAIL PASS. You will be required to fill in a short application form and present your passport (must have "temporary visitor" stamp) when you exchange MCO to the HOKKAIDO RAIL PASS. Only the person whose name is inscribed on the face of the pass can use it. The validity period of MCO is 3 months after issued date. When you exchange it, you can decide the start date of use the pass, but the start date must be within a month from the date when you exchange. You should carry your passport during travel with the HOKKAIDO RAIL PASS, and be prepared to show it if requested. Neither a MCO nor a HOKKAIDO RAIL PASS can be reissued if lost, stolen, soiled, or otherwise rendered unusable.
